Carl is the President of Ex Libris North America, the leading provider of open platform library automation products.  Previously he was the founder and President of CARE Affiliates, Inc. a service provider for open source solutions to libraries and information agencies.  He has over 30 years of experience in the library profession. He is a librarian and educator by degree holding a Bachelor of Science in Education and an MLS in Information & Library Science both from the University of Missouri. Carl has worked as a Vice President at Data Research Associates (DRA), Innovative Interfaces and Ameritech (Dynix/Horizon/NOTIS). He has also served as President of Ex Libris (USA) and VTLS. Carl has long been very active in the information standards area having served on the Board of NISO, a non-profit national information standards organization. He has served as Treasurer, Vice-Chair, Chair and Immediate Past Chair. His tenure on the NISO Board ended on June 30, 2008. He also has extensive experience in open source software including development and maintenance.
